Oregon & SW Washington – The Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) Strike for Imaging and Pharmacy departments continues, while bargaining is ongoing today. Kaiser continues to tell the press and our members that our Union proposal for a 42% wage increase over 4 years is “unreasonable,” while settling for similar amounts in the less profitable Washington Kaiser Permanente region (KPWA).
“We recently learned that Kaiser agreed to pay a 30% wage increase to both licensed and non-licensed healthcare professionals in the northern Washington region (KPWA). Some, such as Environment Services workers, will see a 35% wage increase over 4 years. The key difference between KPWA and our members’ region, KPNW, is that northern Washington has never been profitable for Kaiser. Still, Kaiser has the nerve to call our proposals unreasonable.” Miles Eshaia – Communications Coordinator, UFCW Local 555.
UFCW 555 is not discouraging patients from seeking care. Kaiser Permanente patients may experience delays or cancellations of appointments as Kaiser struggles to find qualified and licensed replacement professionals because of the ongoing ULP Strike.
“Our commitment is to securing a contract that truly reflects the excellence our members deserve, not simply any contract. It’s imperative that Kaiser demonstrates genuine dedication to upholding the dignity and respect owed to our licensed professionals in Oregon and SW Washington. Nothing at Kaiser works without them.” Dan Clay – President, UFCW Local 555
